Let’s Get Specific
Having more than dabbled in the world of professional acting world for a few years now, I can assure you that those who make it get specific. Their acting choices are specific, how they market themselves is specific, and most importantly, they are extremely specific about their goals.
If I told you to do anything and everything you can to get on TV in the next 3 months, what would you do tomorrow to accomplish that goal? Tough question.
Now what if I told you to do anything and everything to get on FlashForward in the next 3 months? Have a better sense of what specific action item you could start tomorrow to get there? Now we’re getting somewhere.
Restrictions engender creativity. This is the same reason you will make a better dinner if I demand you use eggplant, than if I just say to make whatever.
If you have a very specific goal, your brain is allowed to zero in on it, and use that restriction to get creative.
